Dear Mayor Giuliani,
To say that I wasn't happy to hear that you were dropping out of contention for the Republican nomination for President of the United States would be a lie. That having been said, I was a a little sad, because as a New Yorker and an American of Italian descent, something in me longs for a President from New York with a vowel at the end of his name.
Had you held a consistent life and family ethic, I, and I'm sure many other religious people of good will would have been happy to carry your banner, work tirelessly on your behalf and vote for you in both the primaries, and the general election.
Alas, you do not.
You may still have work to be done where your skills and influence may come to bear in arenas not tied to the lives of the unborn and the future of the family.
I am praying that you will have a fundamental conversion of heart. I pray that you will approach your Church humbly, avail yourself of the sacrament of reconciliation, and confirm before God and the citizens of this great country that your social views have moved into the same conservative line as your war, law and order and fiscal views. When that happens (and as a man of faith, I believe it will happen), I will be first in line to support you for whatever elected office for which you might run.
God bless you,
-Tony
